Chapel Conversion – Simplicity, Function and the Methodist Ethos
Our approach to the sensitive conversion of an early 20th-century Primitive Methodist chapel on the edge of the Peak District, considering how principles of simplicity, light and material honesty can inform a contemporary residential scheme. The project brief set by the developer was to reimagine the historic building as flexible accommodation, which we did while preserving its volume, character and defining architectural features.

An exploration of how colour, light and shadow shape atmosphere - using restraint, contrast and moments of saturation to bring depth, clarity and delight to architectural space.
Architectural details: the ancient oak roof structure in a Norfolk Threshing barn
A variation on the traditional Queen Post design: no struts but an additional collar at high-level and elegant tie beam braces.
Cley Contemporary Art Exhibition
While at the annual Contemporary Art Exhibition at St Margaret’s Church - Cley, we were able to marvel at the vaulted stone ceiling to the late 14th Century porch.
