We are RIBA Chartered architects based a short drive from the city, in Hathersage on the edge of the Peak District, working on private residential projects across Sheffield. Our work ranges from extensions and conversions to full renovations and new builds, always designed with attention to place, proportion and detail.
Sheffield sits on our doorstep, about twenty minutes from our studio. We grew up here. Its steep streets, Victorian terraces, and many, many trees were the playground of our youth. We moved away to train and hone our skills, working on complex, design-led projects in London and further afield. Now we’re back – just over the hill – and keen to bring home what we've learned.

Working in Sheffield
Sheffield is a city like no other. It made its name across the world as the city of steel, yet it's also one of the greenest cities in Europe, where woodland, parks and a National Park sit unusually close to the urban fabric. When its steel and cutlery industry faded, it kept its culture of craftsmanship alive, channelling that heritage of making into other forms of creativity, to become a place where artists, makers, musicians, florists, photographers, filmmakers and games designers work side by side.
Understanding the landscape, cityscape and people of Sheffield is crucial. Its character is shaped by the relationship between industry and nature, by its Victorian and Edwardian suburbs, the rhythm of its terraces built across seven hills and its many conservation areas. The city is not uniform – each neighbourhood has its own history, topography and architectural language.
These differences affect how and what we design. In areas like Nether Edge, Crookes, Ranmoor and Broomhill, for example, Article 4 Directions mean permitted development rights are more restricted than they would otherwise be. So if we’re designing a new extension here, we factor this into the scheme from the start. That way we give the proposal the best possible chance of securing planning permission, without losing what made the house worth extending in the first place.

What We Do
Our Sheffield portfolio includes a side extension in Nether Edge, a loft conversion in Ecclesall, and planning & listed building consent for a rear extension in the Broomhill Conservation Area. Add to that 25 years of experience on major cultural buildings, high-end private houses in London, listed building restorations, and rebuilding work overseas after the 2004 tsunami, recognised by the Aga Khan Awards and the Observer Ethical Awards.
Our projects range from small extensions to whole-house renovations, new-build homes and heritage restorations. Alongside this we also offer a complete interior design service, to deliver cohesive, well-crafted homes.

Sheffield FAQs
Do you take on smaller projects, or only larger ones? We work on projects of all sizes, from basement or loft extensions and side returns to full renovations.
Will I need planning permission? It depends on the property, and whether it sits within a conservation area or carries an Article 4 Direction, both of which are common in parts of Sheffield. We can advise on this early in the process, before any design work begins.
