Located in the centre of Hathersage, a village at the eastern end of the Hope Valley encircled by gritstone edges, Colemans Deli is a hub for locals, and a gathering point for climbers and cyclists looking for respite from the terrain and weather. During the pandemic, owners Lizzy and Jim appointed SJW Architects to reconfigure the space and create a coherent design that would help them deal with Covid restrictions without extending.

Colemans Deli

Hathersage, Peak District

The completed scheme features a central entrance, curved counter and separate exit to create an easier flow for customers, with custom-made tables, bench seats and shelves in oak to create a warm, inviting space. A bespoke dried flower installation by Swallows and Damsons, with locally-foraged ferns and heathers, grounds the deli in its Peak District setting and brings in the drama of the surrounding landscape
