A new two-storey rear extension to a Victorian house, currently under construction. The project replaces a series of unsympathetic post-war additions with a clear, expressive intervention that re-establishes light, proportion and spatial generosity at upper and lower ground floor levels.

The design uses concrete and extensive glazing to form a strong counterpoint to the existing building. Structure and materiality are made legible, with large areas of glass opening the house to the garden and allowing daylight to penetrate deep into the plan, while solid elements provide weight and enclosure.

Spatial sequences are open and flexible, with a focus on visual connection, long views and the interplay between interior and exterior spaces. Old and new are clearly distinguished.

Now on site, the project is being realised through a limited palette of robust materials and carefully resolved junctions, balancing boldness with precision.
